Cathy's Faerie
Cathy from Cabra spotted a silver flicker beneath the Liffey's rain-swollen water. A tiny faerie clung to a bottle cap, her wings like heavy, wet petals. Cathy lay flat on the quay and lowered her scarf. "Hold tight!" And she hauled the trembling creature to safety and warmed her in her hands. "Ask anything," whispered the faerie. Cathy thought of Mam, cleaning offices through the night to save pennies for bread and milk. "Let her rest..." That evening, every floor Mam cleaned shone spotless, with the work finished like magic. For the first time in memory, she came home before Cathy fell asleep.
